Long Span Structure Concept

Structural systems

The goal of this exercise is to develop a large volume space through repetition/ novelty - long span through parametric variation.

A repetitive long span structure formed by 2 repeating modules that interlock to span the volume, the canopy created relies on mostly tensile elements that stretch across supporting steel tube networks that further support themselves on the stable steel column.

The first diagram shows the primary steel tube network supported by the steel columns and the second diagram demonstrates how fabric is stretched over this network, thus spanning the space.

The main secondary structure over the primary columns are ETFE membranes, being light and durable, at the same time providing the required shading. Fabric stretched with cables, to the supporting columns provide the required additional shading.
